Italeri's DO217K1 will be my next build after the JU88 and again I'm struggling to determine what colours to use.
The istructions say the planes are from KG2 or KG66, both based in France 1943/44.
The colours are black underneath and some kind of overall grey on top with green splotches or wavy lines. Now black is black so no worries there. I'm trying to determine the Grey and Green colours. It gives the FS colour for the grey as 36440, which I can't find a match in RLM no's. I can find a match for RAF light aircraft grey, which leads me to wonder did they use RLM76 on top?
For the green I think it's either RLM70 or RLM71. The FS no given is 34079, which according to a certain paint conversion chart is both the above or RAF dark green. It can't be all 3 obviously!
Any ideas for the grey and green anyone?

thanks
Mike

I think RLM 70 and RLM 71 are the topside colors Mike. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Russell

Hi Mike,

RLM 70 and RLM 71 are the top colors. The wavy lines were most often RLM 76.

ADDENDUM: I consulted my Official Monogram Painting Guide to German Arcraft 1939-1945; it states, "...in late 1943...Do 217Ks...night raids over Britin. Permanent black (RLM 22) undersides and side...with RLM 76 uppersurfaces, oversprayed with a scribble or mottle pattern of 74 or 75.

...July 1, 1944, the colors 81 & 82 ...replaced 70 & 71.

Thanks, that last one ties in with what's on the instructions and makes the most sense to me.
I thought it would be black underneath and RLM76 top. The instructions definately say the camo on the upper surfaces is green but I'll go with grey if there is a more reliable source than the kit itself. So do we think it's more likely RLM 74 or RLM 75

thanks
Mike
