1⁄48WKF D.I Series 85

The WKF D.I Series 85 marked an end in the Austro Hungarian fighter aircraft development program. This, in its day, was a very modern aircraft and was powered by a 230 hp Hiero inline engine and demonstrated a very clean design. Rarely seen on WW.I aircraft was the standard installation of a wireless transmitter and receiver. This was all in all a very well done technical layout which resulted in excellent performance. This produced a very high climb rate and speed.
This particular model in 1:48 scale is made from the superb Alliance kit. Despite the kits quality some basic modifications had to be made. The most important, was the length reduction of the engine. The crank shaft housing, supplied with the kit is 3mm to long. Also the nicely moulded resin struts needed replacement by some made of brass, because of the weakness of the material. To top it a little, I added some photo-etched parts from various manufacturers. But I can highly recommend the frets supplied from Part.
The colour scheme applied is speculative. It displays one possibility. As later studies shows a variant in different grey shades could also have been possible. I took opportunity for the more colourful.
For comparison the two only known photos of the original are featured

You are welcome Mr. Lawson!
Thank you for you your kind comments about my model. It makes me always happy if someone else likes my work.
My aviation modelling is mainly focused on Austro Hungarian Aviation and in the meantime I have a nice collection.
The figure on the diorama is sculpted by myself, and is one of three of my kits.
With best regards
Peter

That's about the best looking wood effect i've ever seen! I suppose using actual wood is good for that. I actually have the Specail Hobby kit for the Loyd CV (nice kit too), but i doubt if i'll be able to get it looking like that one.

Excellent work, Peter. The wood effect is the best I've seen.
Is that an opened inspection plate just below the engine on the side of the fuselage? Is the interior detailed in that area?
Thanks for the posting and major inspiration.
