Remembrance Day Airshow
The Remembrance Day Airshow
The Remembrance Day Airshow took place on Saturday, November 14th 2009 at Hood Aerodrome in Masterton, NZ. Unfortunately the weather was too windy for the biplanes to make full flights, but it was great to see the newly finished Albatros DV from The Vintage Aviator Ltd. It was finished in the familiar markings of Josef Mai, Jasta 5. It has an original Mercedes engine which has a lovely purgle sound to it. Gene de Marco took it for a short taxi past the crowd with a couple of wing walkers to ensure nothing untoward happened. As you can see from the photos it isn't quite finished yet, the weights table is missing the weights. I understand it has not quite completed it's certification with the civil aviation authorities so would not have been making a full flight in any case. I would expect the TVAL website to post a new build feature some time soon. Until then here are some photos I took at the airshow.
TVAL's reproduction Sopwith Triplane was there as well. This aircraft is already featured on the TVAL website but I think it is less authentic in its finish compared to the SE5as and the Albatros.
