Bytom Scale Models Festival
Some facts and statistics
Ok, time for some statistics. At the display we could see 772 models, in all scales and categories, build by 252 modelers. Models were divided into two age categories: juniors and seniors, each of them into separate sub-categories: standard (out-of-the box) or master (scratch, upgrades etc). Of course there were separate categories for different scales and subjects, in total 51 categories plus 7 special categories for the “French Campaign 1940”. When we consider just AEROSCALE-related statistics there were 37 models in junior category and 124 models in the senior category. I do not know how old was the oldest modeler but the youngest was just 4,5yo. (And you thought you started early...) The competition was really though, many times it was almost impossible to say whether it is a junior or senior model (of course in positive aspect for juniors). If the junior models looked like seniors and the seniors were pure masterpieces imagine the general impression. The visitors frequency was also impressive. In the peak hours it was almost impossible to get to some tables for watching. To make the good quality pictures for the gallery with a tripod I had to come early morning before opening and even then there were already other modelers watching the display.
One of the very positive moment of the contest was the time of announcing the winners. Each modeler from the junior category got a little prize and diploma just for staring and as an encouragement for the future. I think it is important to prompt he youngest to stay in this hobby.
I hope the pictures will tell you the rest of the story about the modeling in Poland and “how-we-do-it-here” but will not tell you one important thing: the joy and pleasure of being one big glue and paint sniffing family for these two days. Thank you all for being there and I hope to see you next time as soon as possible.
