Some notes about the model
The kit is the Tamiya RAF Mustang III. Eduards seatbelts, Squadron vacform canopy and Lifelike decals #48-023 were used for this build. Primary reference source was "Kidd Hofer-The Last of the Screwball Aces" by Troy White.Comments

Hi Nige
Lovely work! I really like the n/m finish.
The only thing I wonder is whether the instruments shroud shouldn't be black?
All the best

Hi Nige,
Beautiful job with the mount of Lt. Ralph K Hofer: Kidd Hofer - Top Ace of the 4th Fighter Group

Thanks for the comments
I might well change the colour of the shroud, the front part of the canopy is only tacked on with white glue so it should be an easy fix
Fred, I love that painting and its on the cover of the book I used as a prime reference source for the build.
At one point I actually considered building the P-51 wheels up and displaying it at the same angle as in the painting.
All the best,
Nige

..true enough. Very elegant looking build Nige - rather gaudy looking machine isn't it. ICM do a 'Hofer' B/C boxing currently sitting in my 'imminent' pile..

Beautiful job Nige, I love the NMF (what did you use there??), and the subtle weathering is super.
Just wondering though, did you get the shakes spending so much time on something that doesn't have a radial and 8 x .50's ?
Cheers, D

Thanks fellas.
I managed just enough time at the bench last week to paint the instument shroud a scale black.
The nmf is various shades of Alclad and the weathering was streaked with very thin Tamiya smoke and also Tamiya Buff. I thought it was a bit overdone but once the last washes and varnish were on it worked out just right,,,bit of a moment though!
Working on something without a radial?,,it was lovely to not have to add an ignition harness etc!, probably knocked about 3 days off the build

Eh up Phil.
I think its an Aluminium base coat and then white alli, dark alli and probably another couple of shades.
Its been a while since I painted it and I dont really have a set formula for it. Just use whatever I have most of at the time for the base coat and fill a few panels in with other shades.
Technical or wot?
