An unfortunate Wimpy In Luqa Airfield Malta 1942.
This diorama in 1/72 scale shows a Wellington twin engined bomber being prepared to be towed out of a hangar after having an engine change.Unfortunately minutes after Z1079 BLF was towed out of the hangar it was completely destroyed. It was strafed by enemy aircraft whilst it was on stand. One of the pictures clearly shows the aircraft on stand minutes before it was destroyed. So there is a bit of history there.
A convenient way of towing heavy aircraft was by making use of the Matilda Tank. There were only two on the island. Here an airman is towing a heavy cable to the aircraft from the Matilda Tank.
Luqa airfield housed many squadrons utilizing different aircraft.

No surprise there (in either the superb quality or the setting location!).
How many more of these can there be? Each one looks like years of work.
I love the figures- converting the horrid flexible vinyl Airfix ones is challenging, but until recently there haven't been any alternatives.
