Arie Donker presents another of his excellent models for us to enjoy, a 1/32 Hasegawa Bf Messerschmitt 109K-4. Arie built this sharp 'Karl' without aftermarket parts, in the markings of the Kommandeur, III Gruppe, Jagdgeschwader 27 (JG 27) 'Afrika'. When tasked with Reichsverteidigung (Defense of the Reich), their fighters wore a green Reichsverteidigungsband around the rear fuselage.

While JG27 fought over almost every battleground the Luftwaffe cast a shadow upon, the Jagdgeschwader adopted the name Afrika in homage to the prominent role the unit played in the air war over North Africa.
