The very prolific Czech octopus MPM/CMK presented once again a broad range of aircraft model kits covering every scale, every genre and every era. The best example is the new V-173 Flying Pancake which was already available in 1:48 scale, but which will also be released in the future in 1:32 scale! The Seafire Mk.XV was also present and will hit the shelves soon in two boxings (Far East and Aéronavale service). In 1:72 many interesting aircraft are to be expected soon as well like the Boulton Paul Balliol.
I won't list all the unreleased kit of the MPM/CMK catalogue since it would take too long, but if you are interested in lesser known design I suggest you to get a sample of it. A few examples? Meteor Mk.8 Prone Version in 1:72 (Ugly!), DFS 230 Mistel in 1:48 (a Bf 109E over a glider), Fokker D.XXI with retractable undercarriage in 1:72 (one prototype), Reggiane Re.2000 Catapultable (Catapult included) etc… And this is only a fraction of what is listed!
Some resin castings of masters were displayed which gave a hint of what will be released first. In 1:72 scale a Short Sunderland Mk.V, a Spitfire/Seafire Last Version Family and a TT-1 Pinto. In 1:48 scale a Supermarine Spitfire XII (?), a Fairey Firefly Family and a F-86 K Sabre Dog. In 1:32 scale a T-2 Buckeye.
In resin from Planet Models a built up model of the 1:48 scale CAC CA-15 Kangaroo was on display and I first thought it was 1:32 scale. The aircraft looks like a P-51 D Mustang on steroids. In the same scale one can expect a XF10F-1 soon as well.

New from the Turkish manufacturer is a SNB 4/5 Benibato. It is a version of the Beechcraft C-45 flown by the Japanese. The kit comes with three marking options. The Beechcraft will be released in Turkish markings as well and if you like exotic subjects you can look forward to the "Foreign" edition of the Sea Fury kit.
Since the German manufacturer has released a 1:32 scale WWII kit every year since its Ju-88 three years ago (with an Arado 196 and a He 111 following), it was to be expected that another big scale Luftwaffe aircraft would be presented this year as well. Again it's a twin engined aircraft: a Heinkel He 219! Only computer images were presented but the kit should be available by the end of this year. Even more surprising was the presence of an all new-tool Bf 109G-6 in the same scale. This is strange, since Hasegawa also has one in its catalogue and Revell is known to rebox items from the Japanese manufacturer from time to time. In a few months we will know what exactly will be in the box.
In 1:48 scale the Revell/USA PV-1 Ventura will be released on the European market in a Revell/Germany box as well as a Mistel Combination (ex Dragon) and a Spitfire Mk.XVI (ex ICM). While there will be only reissues in 1:72 scale, Revell has received permission to produce a 1:144 model of Virgin owner Richard Bronson's Space Ship Two with Carrier White Knight Two. There was indeed a 1:32 model of this unusual Spacecraft in Nürnberg but it was a display model on loan from Virgin Galactic, London.

Once again Roden wasn't present in Nürnberg. However, some new boxes (sadly empty) from the manufacturer did appear on Sunday and even one brand new display model which was presented at the Squadron booth. It was a test shot build of the new 1:48 scale N.A. T-28B Trojan and though the model was hastily assembled and painted, it nevertheless revealed the great potential of the kit. Another interesting release will be the Airco (de Havilland) DH9 in its ambulance variant, also in quarter scale.

The RS Models booth was very small, but every available space was used to good effect. The Czech manufacturer was prolific in the past months and a lot of new 1:72 scale aircraft kits will be available in 2012: Airspeed Envoy, Kawasaki Ki-100 Hien, Lockheed Lightning, Miles Magister, Morane Saulnier MS406, Payen Pa 22/2, XP-79 Flying Ram, etc…
The Czech Model aircraft model brand seems to have vanished altogether at the MMD Squadron booth, so the only new items on display were the Encore Models kits, the True Details resin sets and the Super Scale International decal sheets. Encore will continue to produce kits based on the Blue Max movie (this time in 1:32 scale). The True Details resin range has received a serious boost. The resin used is now grey and the packaging has been revised. It all looks much better than in the past, I must say. Most noticeable are correction sets for both the Great Wall Hobby P-61 and Revell PV-1 Ventura kits. The former will also benefit from two new decal sheets from Super Scale International.

Once again Jean-Luc you have provided and excellent review! Many thanks! I noticed in your photos the company named "Admiral" releasing a 1/72 TBD Devastator. Did they have a test shot and if so, was it good?

Hi Johannes,
The Admiral kits were part of the AZ Model line up and sadly they only had their kits displayed on the German importer's booth. The Admiral people weren't there in fact so I'm afraid I can't give more infos. Maybe Steffen can be of better help (his friend Volker is more into 1:72 scale stuff).
