Hoosier Air Museum

Hoosier Air Museum is located next to De Kalb County Airport (KGWB), Auburn, Indiana.

Hoosier Air Museum has a modest yet impressive collection of aircraft and artifacts. These include the following photos shown in this feature, as well as salutes to the Tuskegee Airmen and the WASPs (Women Airforce Service Pilots). Other displays include aerial cameras, components from a Bf 109, First World War aircraft plates and paintings, goggles, helmets and headwear, instruments, manuals and books, mess kits and food, model displays, WWII Pacific Theater, and an extensive library.

Also displayed are the incredible low-altitude photographs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki taken only a couple of months after the war ended. (See the link, below right.) These are from the personal collection of William "Bill" Jones. He secretly kept several for himself, only revealing them in the 1990s (with guidance from Brigadier General Paul Tibbets, pilot of the Enola Gay)and donating them to National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. Mr. Jones has some very interesting stories and insights from his flights.

Several of the aircraft and components on display at Hoosier Air Museum are already featured here at Aeroscale: AH-1 Cobra, B-24 Autopilot, Hiller OH-23 Raven Helicopter, Nieuport fighter, Pratt & Whitney and Wright Big Radials, Robin Olds & 434th F.S. Museum, and a Stinson Reliant and a V-77, and a USN training glider.
