USAF Museum part 3

introduction
Sometimes during a museum tour one takes the opportunity to go back to a previously-visited gallery and take a few more pictures. Thus, our visit to the USAF museum returns to the Early Years gallery and we take the chance to revisit some of the exhibits we've seen before and spend a little more time looking at the details.
aero engines
An aircraft is only as good as its engine. We'll take a look at some early aero engines to see the technical advances that were brought about by the press of wartime. On display are the Wright 6-60, Roberts Model 4, Oberursel UR-2 and Liberty V-12. During a little more than 4 years, aircraft engines increased in power from 60 Hp to more than 400.
equipment
Another advance that was critical for high-speed flight was the retractable landing gear. The Dayton-Wright XPS-1 was the first US military aircraft to feature a retractable landing gear. Its cockpit section, including the retraction mechanism, is preserved for display.

Wind tunnels were important to aircraft design from the days of the Wright brothers. On display is a very impressive wooden venturi tunnel.
