history
The Albatros D.V was intended to be a lightened and improved successor to the very successful D.III. Unhappily, it turned out to be heavier, and was nearly fatally burdened by structural weakness in its lower wing. It was, however, the only fighter available in sufficient quantity to be fielded at the time, so the Luftstreitkräfte had to make do.

Despite being handicapped by a less than robust mount, aces such as Ernst Udet made good use of the fighter and ran up respectable scores on it. Colonel General Ernst Udet (26 April 1896 – 17 November 1941) was the second-highest scoring German flying ace of World War I. He was one of the youngest aces and was the highest scoring German ace to survive the war (at the age of 22). His 62 victories were second only to Manfred von Richthofen, his commander in the Flying Circus. Udet rose to become a squadron commander under Richthofen, and later, under Hermann Göring.
the model
Ivan's model is the incomparable Wingnut Wings 1/32 kit. Ivan had this to say about the model: "Woodgrain is hand painted - I use brown poster paint over light doped linen color method - works pretty well and results are erasable until sealed with gloss."

Thanks, everybody! Some extra info on the model - WnW Albatros kit and Wooden Beauties Decal set, Lozenge wings are done up with Pheon Decals pre-cut set (product I highly recommend to save time on lozenge/ribtape application), rigging is done "through-wing" with 0.015 jeweler's wire. Special Thanks goes out to JackFlash for his in-depth "Lozenge 101" primer and decal application advice, as well as Aeroscale community for inspiring me with their builds.
