history
Conceived in great secrecy at the height of the Cold War, Lockheed's SR-71 exemplifies the lengths to which the United States went to pry secrets out from behind the Iron Curtain. Still unmatched in terms of raw speed and altitude capacity, the SR-71's secrets have been mostly exposed in the years since its retirement but its fascination with aircraft enthusiasts remains strong.the model
Testors' 1/48 kit is old but still impressive. This kit has been modified extensively. The landing gear wells were totally scratchbuilt, and the afterburner cans given an extensive makeover. The nose was back-dated to the early "slick" configuration before the RWR fairings were added. These changes made an already impressive model into something truly special.Comments
Hi Justin
An inspirational build! I've really enjoyed following your updates on how you totally transformed the old kit.
All the best

Justin, Just a fantastic build from day one. As you already know, I followed your complete build, and was just blown away by all the details, and corrections you made. Those wheel wells are just outstanding to say the least.
Looking forward to following your YF-102A build. Should be a great ride for all of us.
