history
Hawker's Typhoon was intended to be a follow-on to their very successful Hurricane fighter. Powered by the temperamental and troublesome Napier Sabre engine, the Typhoon did not succeed as a classic fighter due to its thick high-lift wing. While some may call this a disappointment for Hawkers, it turned out the be just what the RAF was discovering they needed as the Allied armies advanced through Occupied Europe. The Typhoon could carry large loads of bombs or rockets, and a "cab rank" of Typhoons overhead was just what every Infantry Commander wanted.
the model
Here is the Airfix 1/24 Hawker Typhoon Mk.1B, launched by the company in August this year. This is a large, complex model, built in 220+ steps across 45+ pages of A4-style instructions.

The model here is built OOB, with the following exceptions: seat belts and radiator grille covers from RB Productions, and scratch-detailing to interior of the port wing. As well as removing the top of the wing, the forward area of the port fuselage wall has been removed to the level of the wing root, to expose the wealth of interior structural detail, which would not otherwise be on view.

Rob, Truly an outstanding build to an outstanding model. The cut-a-ways are certainly needed to show off the highly detailed wing and engine. Joel
