History
The P-47 Thunderbolt was an evolution of Seversky's P-43, which itself was developed from the P-35. Designed by Alexander Kvarteli, the P-47 was the largest and heaviest single-seat fighter fielded by any combatant during the War. It was justly famous for being able to survive massive damage and still keep flying. At first employed as a long-range bomber escort, the Thunderbolt found its niche in ground attack, supporting the front line troops as they advanced across Europe in the closing year of the War.The Model
Ryan built this one out of the box. Built it as LtCol Benjamin Mayo, 84th FG, Duxford Air Base, 1944. After the plane was built, he primered it in white, pre-shaded it with black and then coated it with two shades of alcad paint; white aluminum and air-frame aluminum. Sprayed it with Future floor polish, decals, more polish then oil paint pin wash, dull coat and pigments to finish the weathering.Comments
