Tangmere’s Harrier GR.3, XV744, was built as a GR1 and took part in the Daily Mail Transatlantic Air Race in May 1969.
It later served with No 1 Squadron and No 233 Harrier Operational Conversion Unit at RAF Wittering where it was rebuilt to GR3 standard.
The aircraft’s last MOD location was at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, Shrivenham, Wiltshire.
XV744 was purchased and presented as a gift to Tangmere Military Aviation Museum by its Society of Friends in March 2013.
