Hi all,
This is my just completed Hasegawa Folgore. The build of the kit was easy enough, but I had to go and make it harder by using Eduard's PE landing flaps. I have never built flaps before and was surprised how easy they were. The hard part came when it was time to start sawing on the wings. It worked O.K., for being the first time, so I'm satisfied.
I really had a time with the paint. I actually tried to match the box art, using masking tape to get what appeared to be hard edged camo. But it did not look right, and I made a HUGE amount of work for myself with the tape. So out came the base coat again..... and now this is the final result. This was not easy either as we had a hot spell here and the temp caused the paint to dry before it hit the plane. So I thinned it out more and the result was slight splatters. I was able to fix most of them, but still!
Here is a list of the add ons:
Eduard PE flaps
Eduard cockpit zoom
Resin wheels
Anyway, let me know what you think. I am going to enter this in a IPMS show on the 16th here in Washington State. I also am going to build a base for it.

Hi Percheron
Fantastic work! I love the effect of a replacement wing with smoke-ring camo. The only point I noticed was that while researching for my own Folgore build a while back, I found some photos that seemed to show the inside of the canopy framework was painted black - but that might not have been universal practice.
All the best - and I think you should knock 'em out at the show!

Thank you all for you kind words. I really do appreciate it.
One other thing I forgot to mention with the flaps. You really have to do a lot of sanding to get them to sit properly in the wing. I thought they were in good, but it was not until I joined the body/wing did I notice that both wings were bowed out a bit. I was able to sand most of it down but it took longer than if I had know what to look out for.

Hi again Derek
Did you keep any in-progress notes and shots? - this would make a superb subject for a build Feature...

Sadly, I did not Rowan.
I thought about it, but I was kind of hurrying to get it done before the IPMS show on the 16th. I still need to do a base as well.
I have a Romanian Hurricane Mk.1 in the "to do" list that has all the same AM stuff as this Folgore. That may be a good one since it is kind of rare, from what I have seen anyway.

Hi Derek
That's a shame - but please do keep a record of the Hurricane build!
In the meantime, the finished Macchi really deserves to be an On Display. Do you have any more pics to go with the ones here?

Yes I do!
I would be thrilled to have it featured in "On Display". Is it O.k. if I get the base finished first? Or is the blue backgound prefered?

Hi Derek
Certainly finish the base. We want to show the model in the form you're most happy with and posing the Folgore on a base will mean a totally fresh set of photos for us all to enjoy.

Hi Derek!
Congratulations!
Do you have more pictures of your Folgore? This way I could make an On-Display feature out of it. It would be an honor to have an award wining model featured on Aeroscale!

Excellent job. Your camo job accentuates the graceful lines of the Italian bird quite well. To bad they don't have prizes above and beyond first place.
