The build is the Airfix Lancaster painted to represent Lancaster DS720 KO D of 115 Sqn Royal Air Force. This was the aircraft of my Great Uncle Bill who tragically died during a bombing raid on Brunswick on Jan. 14, 1944. The model was presented to my Grandfather as a memoriam to his brother. The kit was a standard build 'out of the box' build and painted with Tamiya paints. The decals used were spares from a Revell kit as they were better detailed than the Airfix kit the serial codes were from Carpena.
Only once I was researching further during the decalling that I discovered that the kit is not 'technically' correct for the serials I was doing as the aircraft should be a mark II with radial engines. The base was a piece of MDF covered with static grass and airbushed in patches with a darker green. Regardless of the wrong aircraft mark, my grandfather was over the moon when I presented this to him the other week.
I hope to eventually make another one for myself using the Hasegawa Kit with the Paragon Lancaster MkII conversion set.
As always comments and suggestions welcomed
