I just scored a 1/48 B-1B Lancer. I am a little confused as how to paint the outer surfaces. It calls for gunship grey (I use enamels, and gunship grey is like a bluish grey). All the ones that you see in books and on t.v. are black looking.

What color is that black looking color?

It is gonna be nice when done. Huge! I am thinking of putting a decal of a little devil gargoyle on it with "Baghdad Express" written underneath it. It isn't anything personal, just a neat idea that I got while looking at the kit and watching the war coverage.
I am also thinking about writing on the bombs, but those words are classified.

Can't really say for sure what the color is. You may try a charcoal or interior black. Maybe the closest thing to the shade you need

Gunship gray FS36118 is the color you want. Very dark gray, it is the standard color for most USAF aircraft right now since it has a relaively low IR signature. Most of what you see on TV is backlit so a dark color is going to look black against the sky. The C-5's flying in and out of Westover AFRB just across the river look almost black against a bright sky as they fly over. On the ground, and I'd see them pretty close up every month before 9-11 (we had our meetings on the base), they'd appear light gray when the lowering sun was to my back.
