:-) This is the last of the 3 Amigos, a trio of Messerschmitt Bf 109Es that I haf been building for the Luftwaffe group build. This is a Bf 109E-7 Trop flown by the legendary, Lieutenant Hans-Joachim Marsielle, his exploits with 3/JG 27 earned him the nickname "Star of Africa".
This model is the Revel boxing of the Hasegawa 1/48 Messerschmitt Bf 109E. There are some subtle differences (improvements), notably the the tailplane comes up to the hole through which they connect, in the rudder, and under nose inlet/outlets are open. The etched steel is not included, but that can't be seen in the originals anyway. A relatively cheap and simple kit, unless like me you choose to close the canopy cos there is quite a bit of material to remove for this to happen.
The model is finished with Xtracolour paints, RLM 78 undersides, RLM 79 and 80 topsides. After the decals a coat of Klear then I sprayed a well thinned and misted coat of Medium Sea Grey, this to replicate the bleaching effects of the sun. Then another coat of Klear, then the wash, Warm grey and Raw Umber artist oil paint on the undersides, more Raw Umber added for the topsides. The panel lines on the top of the wings are not particularly well defined so several attempts were made to get the wash to stay put. This would have been posted yesterday but I had real problems attaching the antenna wire, for some reason it just didn't want to play. After several more attempts this morning I finally won, phew :-)

Great examples of the Emil schemes. I always thought that H>J> Marsailles was yellow 14. I've got a two tone F model built, don't know about his early stuff. Loved the pictures and especially the trop version

Awesome...............

How long does it take you to complete a model? It seems like you're a modeling factory! One after another....or had you built these already?

The 3 Amigos where all started 1st January, this E-7 Trop is the last to be finished. The 109F was already completed, just confiming blaster76 comment about yellow 14. Most of the other pics of models I have posted were started, to some degree when I joined Armorama. I have more nearing completion, if you like this little Emil I think you will love the next desert scheme aircraft I post. One of my favourite models, like the rest has actually been in limbo for some time. Fritz, the real reason I am finishing all these models is, as I have said several times before, but don't mind repeating, Armorama and the wonderful cummunity here :-)
Stay tuned for the next instalment :-)

Well a big salute Lt. Col Holdfast,
on a very well finished ME-109 , just seeing it inspires me to do my old 1/32 scale Matchbox kit that I've had for a while. Keep up the good work, it will help to inspire others no doubt, as it has me. I truly long to be as good as some of the model builders whose kits and dioramas etc. are shown on this great site. I have a task set out to achieve but look forward to trying.
Regards,
Pte. Stormin (Kenny).
