Hey guys,
I was just wondering roughly how low aircraft in WWII during dive bomb runs. Several websites ( here and here
here ) say that the pilot would release the bomb between 1000 and 2000 feet, but they do not pull up (or the diagrams do not show) straight away (or that it takes a while for the aircraft to react). I was just wondering how low could they go?
Thanks for your help.

Very low. Some of the Stukas went low enough to almost hit trees to ensure a hit, although I do not think that was the normal procedure

Thanks for the fast reply. I was not sure if it was that low or not (how some diagrams can be over simplistic).

The pilot would not pull up right away to allow the bomb to release properly. How low they go depends on circumstances such as target size, AA, intestinal fortitude...
My only experience in dive bombing comes from a bird that got me at Ft. Jackson though.
