Picked up a Monogram B-24 J Liberator. My goal is to build her as a RAAF version that my uncle flew during WWII. Some major modifications will include removing the ball turret and fixing the fuselage in that area. He used to fly low level bombing runs against Japanese shipping in Burma.

For the kit itself- any improvements that can be made to it?
Any after market detail sets available?

Thanks!
Peter

If you are going to have it resting on the ground:
Seatbelts for pilot and co pilot.Armor plate behind their seats, floor to roof.Put in a radio operators table, behind the copilot.put in a seat, sort of a swivel type with a seatbelt for the radio man.If you really want to see in there, open the hatch on the roof behind the pilot, and let it hinge down, with the "hinge to the outboard edge.
put ammo belts to the waist guns.put armor plating aft of the waist windows, inside and at right angles to the aircraft sides.there should be an opening large enough for a man to walk aft to the rear turret.open the depressions below and aft of the waist windows, fill with microcrystal clear.
That is what I had done to mine .
My father was a nose turret gunner on one in the 15th AF in Italy.

TankCarl,
thanks for the info.
I was speaking to my uncle via email- and one thing he mentioned was the LACK or armor plating- to cut down on the weight for all the extra fuel they had to carry! I'll have to check with him if there was any armor plating onboard. But thanks for the other tips- it will be in 'resting' position.
