Our Phoenix IPMS chapter is doing a group build for the IPMS Nats of the planes of Luke AFB in 1/48th. I was asked to do Luke's Spad and Luke. The Spad is the DML kit, Luke is a heaviy modified CMK figure. The dirt is from Verdun and Murveaux, France.

Kevin,
I can see the balloons burning! Very nice work on the Spad and figure. How did you get the soil from France?

Really nice job on that SPAD. I really like to see the small details included on a model. They are what makes modeling special. Getting area dirt for the base, that shows a fine eye for authentic detail. The figure is fantastic. I hope you do well at IPMS.

Hi Kevin!

Very Nice model! The base looks fantastic too...

If someone wants original sand for a WW2 "Bataille de France" base I can send him some from my garden...

Thanks for the kind words. I will see about taking some more pics today. I did use PART photoetch machine guns and photoetch seat and belts. Other than that it is pretty much stock. I took a week's vacation in May to France visiting Normandy (my cousin is buried at the US Cemetery above Omaha Beach) and Verdun (where my grandfather fought in WWI). I collected the dirt in waterbottles and just put it in my carry-on. I was really amazed at how well the French camoflauge matched the soil and grass colors.

The DML kit is an excellent one - and the only game in town for the Spad XIII.
