I have decided to document the build of my entry in the Early Bird Contest. Right now I am just letting parts dry while I go though the instructions and references. As you can see from my other model posed next to the parts, this 1/28 Revell Fokker Dr. I is quite large. I will also be using some Copper State Models and Tom's Modelworks accessories to help flesh things out.

I think I will begin with the engine.

Thanks. I will also look into getting that reference you told me about in the contest thread. For today though I plan on spending my time working on my first Feature for AeroScale. Should be interesting.

However, I think I will try using Humbrol Silver instead of Testors buffable aluminum for the engine. I have had good results with it in the past and once the patina of burnt castor oil is added I doubt there will be much of a difference.

Well, I ended up taking a break from this for a month. When I started classes I decided to try out being a reporter for the university newspaper, and while it was an interesting learning experience, I simply could not keep up with the enormous workload and maintain my grades in my other classes, (and keep my sanity) so I let my editor know I had to drop the class and worked on finishing up all the remaining articles I had assigned to me. (I wouldn't screw over my comrades like that :-) ) My last article hit the presses today and I have caught up with my classwork, so now it is back to work!

I haven't done much yet today, but I have started laying down the framework for the scratchbuilt cockpit. One thing I have to keep my eye on is that because the plastic of the fuselage halves are so thick, I must actually build the framework a little smaller than shown in my diagrams. I may not get it right the first time...

Anyways, I just wanted to let you all know that I am back!

Michael

I am going to do a 1/32 Roden Dr.I. for the contest also. I don't want to step on your toes by doing the same airframe as you. If you are going to do the all red version, I will choose another one.
