Although I am a fairly frequent visitor at Aeroscale and this forum I haven't been posting here before. This is regrettable but easy to explain because I do a lot of modelling work and commentary elsewhere on the web. I hope that many will already know me as the editor of IPMS Stockholm ( http://www.ipmsstockholm.org )

I'm here to announce a new site and ask for your opinion. Having developed the IPMS Stockholm site for over 10 years, I have been eating, sleeping and breathing scale modelling, which has also been extremely rewarding. However, I have also been contemplating starting something different, devoted more directly to aviation history and aircraft rather than models. This summer the initiative has taken shape: I'm going to build a professional-quality monograph site devoted to the Supermarine Spitfire.

http://spitfiresite.com/

I hope that you would like to visit it and share your suggestions. All kind of helpful feedback would be of great value to me - how do you like the idea, what contents would you like to see etc. And if you could, just maybe, think of supporting the site with your models or writing, that would be just great!

With all the aviation resources on the web, should you bother about yet another new site? It's a kind of personal decision, but here are my suggestions:
- This is a serious initiative. I have a long experience in editing and growing web sites and certainly do not intend to cease the updates on this one anytime soon.
- Is there a really, really good site out there addressing the needs of RAF history/Spitfire buffs? If not, maybe this one will be something for you, provided that you like what you see.
- Martin is a modeller and IPMS:er, so he can't be all that bad. Let's give his project a helping hand!

Best regards to all,
/Martin W

I found the site to be well worth bookmarking. The Spit is among my most favorite aircraft of World War II, guess that goes back to the first time I saw Battle of Britain... Keep up the good work, best of luck with the site!

Looks like it has the makings of an excellent site.
I especially liked the crash landed Spit diorama

Martin,
This is a wonderful Idea because, as anyone knows, "you just can't have too many Spitfires".
The site is book marked, of course.
What I would like to see on a site such as this are the details that would enable me to scratch build details for scale models, particularly large scale. I have more references on the Spitfire than any other aircraft, but my funds are limited. I have a choice between buying models or references. I therefor rely heavily on the Internet as a major reference source. It can be difficult to find the right picture or diagram to enable me to undertake the detailing that I want to do on my large scale models. Consequently I have yet to build one. I prefer to have drawings, as, if they are well done, detail is easier to determine.
Details of markings and the changes that were carried out would also be useful, as would details of stencilling that was carried.
Thinking about modelling it would also be very useful to point out the, sometimes, minor differences between marks. A clear set of drawings annotated to show all changes would be very useful.
I guess what I’m saying is clear drawings of every aspect of this wonderful machine is what I would like to see.
Not much work there then
Martin I will be an avid watcher of your site, regardless of how it is
I like Spitfires, Mal

Thanks all for the replies and words of encouragement. Mal Mayfield, my plans for future development of the site include modellers' reference along the lines outlined in your post. It is, however, difficult for me to tell when the site will develop into this direction... I suppose in a few months.
