How many people would be interested in an online P-47 SIG?
This would take the form a thread, which Merlin has offered to make a "sticky",so it doesnt get lost in the forums.
Individual build threads will of course be encouraged in the forums, but the SIG thread would be a place to discuss anything and everything P-47 related, post photos of finished builds, reference photos, links etc. There are many Thunderbolt questions asked in the forums and the SIG would be a good place to keep everything together in one easy to find thread.

Well I do have a few Thunderbolts to build, including a 1/32 example, so yep I'd like to see this. You never know, it could be the start of something

I to have a few T-bolts available for such an endeavor. Time is the only problem. I do think one of the 1/48 T-bolts can be managed. Count me in.

Hi Nige!

Excellent idea as the P-47 seems to be in a great "fashion" now!

In my stash awaits; 2 Tamiya bubble tops (D and M), 2 Academy (D and N), 1 Hasegawa D (bubble) and a promodeller N, all in 1/48.
Add to this another Hasegawa D bubble and a Trumpeter D Razorback in 1/32, and with the Trumpeter N coming this winter, there seems that I have some bolts to do!

This will be a perfect place to trade ideas and find information to build our P-47´s as correct as possible!

Cheers!

Looks promising from the replies so far.
Dennis,,hang on,,,we havent started yet
I think some people are confusing the idea of a SIG with a group build.
Stefan summed the idea of the SIG up very well

For example,in the Trumpeter Razorback build thread there are questions about the cowling actuators,in one of my recent builds there was a section discussing correct cowling colours and propeller types for different batches. A SIG group thread will give us chance to collate all this info so it doesnt get lost in the forums.

I'll leave this thread to run for a few days to gauge peoples (so far very positive) response.

Just an idea that Sam and I came up with to expand on this one... How about a new section on the forums main page called Special Interest Groups/ Resources and then in there there are sections for items like the P-47, P-51, Me109, Fw190, Spitfire, etc. and even some popular modern stuff (like the Tomcat, A-10, Hunter, etc) That way they are all located in one location and not spread all other the forum.

Thats an interesting idea and one that could be considered for the future.
I think that this will be the first SIG on the kitmaker network. I would like to start it as a thread and see how it progresses. The next step would be gallery space if possible.
If this starts interest in other SIG's, and at some point in the future a dedicated forum is added to the site,it would only be a matter of moving the thread.
Depends what the boss thinks

Wouldn't a SIG be an ongoing group build, with a lot of other things thrown in?

the Trumpeter N coming this winter

Looks like I need to make room for another humongous box in the closet. We really need to do this SIG thing with the different section. Maybe we could do a campaign to join each of the different sections. Finish a plane and be initiated into that section.

I'm thinking some people are confused what a SIG is A SIG is short for Special Interest Group.

SIG's are groups of people that share an interest in a particular area (in this case the P-47)

For more insight into what a SIG is check out the IPMS (UK) SIGs

Obviously this idea would be run slightly different though

Cool idea, Nigel. I'd like to see a SIG for Mustangs, too. Maybe if this one takes off others will follow. As for the P47, if anyone has a need for a few ref photos I have a few. Nothing with cowl actuators though in one shot one can see the hinges for them.

Another Jug to look at. A P-47D Razorback built a year ago or maybe a little less, in 325 fighter group colors. The group was based in Foggia, Italy at the time. Enjoy. Russell
