First, a small update:
Taking the advice of Tin_Can and Holdfast, I sanded off the blemish on my Corsair, mixed a color close to what was already on my plane, and sprayed a few areas... Well, it worked! :-)
Just need to do a wash, then I can move to weathering. Here's where my question comes in:
1). Should my Corsair have a really dull coat (i.e. dead flat) or should it be more of a satin finish? (like what you get from the Testor's spray cans)
2). Which dull-coat should I use? I've heard people say that if you use future as a gloss coat, followed with a dullcoat that is enamel based, this will cause the future to cloud over...
And I don't need that to happen!

What do you suggest?

:-) YodaMan, realy pleased for ya :-)
Although the Sea Blue was gloss, in my opinion, with all the weathering it would recieve and scale aspects plus looks and a million and one other reasons I would go with matt. Semi gloss might be OK but I personally think matt or a very (very) slight sheen, is the way to go. Take a look at my F6F-5 in the Gallery. It is gloss sea blue overall but I matt coated it. I actually posed a similar question about gloss verses matt, opinion was towards matt coat.
Which dull coat to use? Well I generally prefer acrylics, mainly because of the rapid drying time. I have used, recently, Xtracolor matt varnish which is enamal (it's good but takes an age to dry thoroughly) over Klear (Future). I have not heard of Klear being clouded by enamel based matt coats, but if you have then there must be something in it. Could just depend on wich one you use. If you are in any doubt, and you have acrylic, I'd use that. If you only have enamel then I'd test a piece first :-)

Yoda, I'm glad it worked out ok for you. Can't wait to see pics!

As far as the dull coat goes I would think it needs to be totally matt-especially if there will be some medium to heavy weathering depicting an aircraft of heavy use. If it's an island corsair those things were beat up real bad by the coral and elements so I would leave no sheen on it if it were me.

I've only used the testors spray can dullcoat so I'm not sure about what to use for airbrushing. I only used the can because I had it and didn't want it to go to waste. It's gone now so I'll need to find something to use through my airbrush for the Gladiator I'm working on.

Yodaman - I have only used the testors dullcoat out of a can, so can talk about anything else.

I have read that your need to let the "Future" dry and set thoroughly (at least 24-hours) before you put the dull topcoat. Most non-acrylic dullcoats are lacquers, so use several light coats and not one heavy coat. This should help stop any clouding of the Future.
