We are starting a new series of polls to help us get an insight in what you the member likes the most.
This should help us with Reviews/Features and On Display articles that you the member would like to see more of.
Starting of with the age old question is "What era do you model the most".
We all have our reasons for modelling a particular era, so use this thread to explain why you choose to model that particular era the most.

Hi!

I have cast my vote for the WWII era.

Why?

Simply because there´s so many interesting subjects to model, as this was a time of very rapid developments.

Cheers!

"What era do you model the most".

Such polls are always tough for me. I tend to model whatever interests me. I don't do much WW1, but every other era. Fickle I guess ? For years, as many, I modeled WW2 subjects, but of late I've broadened my horizons to include most of the other eras listed in the survey.

Well I model two eras…
Helicopters from Vietnam to present (mid 60’s to now)
Modern Aircraft from the early 70’s to the present.

My reason, well 99% of the kits I build are U.S. aircraft. Growing up near Niagara Fall Air Force base I was able to see many aircraft overhead. Also the Army National Guard had a small base there, the 42nd Aviation division which flew Huey and Cobras and Chinooks. Seeing the sights and sounds had me interested, over the years I was buying building them when I could.

I love WW1 aircraft and some WW2 aircraft and armour so I might be closer to 50/50 in what I build between the two eras

The increase in early aviation subject kits is exactly what got me back into building aircraft models as opposed to cars and occasional ships. But i also like WW2 and early jets.

What i can't build is modern subjects and airliners. I've worked on modern military and civil airline aircraft for 20 years and don't want to see work at home.

I think that the WW2 era is the most interesting to model. I have an interest in all of aviation history, always have since I was very young; however the WW2 time was the single most important event of the twentieth century. It set the stage for all of the history of my life and all those who came after it.
The wide types of aircraft built by various countries with all sorts of camoflauge adds to the interest.
My dad was a marine in fthe Pacific at the time, seeing action at Kwajalien, Saipan and Iwo Jima. This surely affected me, although he wasn't in aviation he told me about aircraft which he saw on the islands. He saw the first B-29 land on Iwo Jima, and also told of the line of P-61's he saw.
He almost was attacked by a bomb carrying Wildcat once! I believe this was on Iwo Jima.
So his experiences certainly have played a role in my interest.
I would add that I have gone through phases in my model building life, building hight performance modern jets, helicopters, even commercial stuff, but I keep coming back to the second world war. I see by the poll results I am not alone. Take care. Russell

Has to be WW2 for me as both parents wre there.
Mum in the ATS and Dad a young boy growing up in Kent. There stories about dogfights over there heads have kept me going for years.
Also the fact that you can model say a Hurricane in loads of diffent national markings.
Currently obsessed with FAA types for some reason mainly US aircraft flying in FAA markings.

Andy, could you please add my vote in all areas ? .. I assume it contradicts the intension of this poll

Anyway, great work Aeroscale staff ... keep it comming

I am mostly building modern jets and helicopters.

This could change of course.

The Aeroscale attention for WW1 has raised my interest. it could well be that I switch to WW1 subjects when my stash of modern jets is finalised.

But i don't expect that to happen soon

I would like to see a healthy balance of reviews and features across all periods and genres. I feel that by focusing on one particular niche group leads to an exclusion of other interest groups, thus making it (the site) a period specific site - not necessarily a bad thing, but is it really what you want?

That said, I haven't built planes in a few years, but plan a come back within the next year. So I voted as to what I plan to model... which is 1/48 scale British/CW WWII aircraft. Were I allowed to cast more than 1 vote I would also have voted for WWI, which is a growing interest for me.

I just voted but, like others, my interests really fall into more than one category.

Would it not be possible to set up the poll so that you can make more than one choice (e.g. "click on all that apply")?

I have voted, but as others also have said, it was not really relevant to me since era is not important to me. Instead what matters to me is scale (strictly 1/72) and subject. My primary interest is RAF and FAA (including the Commonwealth Air Forces during WWII). Secondary interest is NATO. From time to time I might focus on a certain era, e.g. WWII, early jets, between the wars, etc. but the subject is always the main thing.

I have voted today.
I modell exclusively WW2 aircrafts, and the ones that I prefer are the Mossie and Spitfire. Then comes the P47 - P51 - FW 190 - B25
