How many people would be interesting in this idea for a campaign.
Aces High
Build a model to represent an aircraft flown by an "Ace" ( A pilot with 5 confirmed kills or more).
Any era would be eligible,,WW1,WW2,Korea etc.
To qualify for a ribbon, apart from building the model of course, you would need to post a photo of the actual plane, and provide some background information. (Pilots name, final tally of kills etc, nothing too in depth)
The campaign will run for 6 months, starting date to be decided if theres enough interest and it gets the relevent approval.

Why not? That means I would finally get some use for my "Luftwaffe Topguns" decal sheet... I'm on!

Hi all!
This sounds as a very "open" Campaign idea to me!
Many options for which aircraft and ace to build, and I have just started to collect Osprey´s "Aircrafts of the Aces" book-series!
Count me in!
Cheers!

Very cool idea - Count me in!
I have a lot of ME 109s in my stash with a lot of kills markings on the tail.

I will, I just remembered it upon seeing this campaign suggestion.
If and when this campaign takes off, I'll probably do a proper entry first and then tackle this one.
I've been thinking about the project and making custom decals for the IM logo and kill markings seem the easiest method. Even a large scan of the single's back cover I found isn't large enough for cropping the heads from, so I dug up scans of the previous album covers, with the intention of photoshopping those.
This maybe too early to start thinking about campaign rules, but what's needed for a plane to qualify to aces campaign? The plane which the pliot achieved his fifth victory with, or any plane the pilot flew after that?

Hi All.
Looks like theres going to be quite a bit of interest in this
I have a target figure Id like to see register interest before I officially submit the idea.
To qualify the plane would have to have been flown by an ace. That is to say it should have 5 or more kill markings on display. If however, someone chooses to depict an aircraft flown by an ace who didnt display victory markings this should be backed up by references.

Thats why I think it would make a good campaign and appeal to as many members as possible Stefan

I'd certainly be interested in this campaign when it goes ahead. Think I've got one or two in the stash that would qualify.

Hi Nigel you can count me in for this not sure on the aircraft or ace but will most likely be Italian. If I can find the aircraft and markings in 1/144 will do two if you allow 1/144.

Hi all.
Sorry for the late reply,,Ive been a bit busy recently to say the least!
Ok,,Im going to officially submit this as a Campaign Suggestion.
Build an aircraft flown by an Ace.
To qualify for a ribbon you will have to post 3 photos of the finished build and one photo of the actual plane.
The plane must carry 5 or more victory markings. The exception to this would be if the pilot didnt actually record his victories on the aircraft,as was the case of many, particularly 1st World War Aces. ( Hence one of the reasons for posting a photo of the actual plane as well as photos of the finished model).
Any era, any scale. Dioramas, bases, flown from the ceiling on string, all welcome. Id like the Campaign to run for a minimum of 6 months.
I'll post a new thread if and when its approved.

Nige - I see your proposal for "Aces High" in the cue. Now get the fellows to go over to it and sign up (enlist) as soon as there are 10 or more it will be approved, but get your thinking cap on and finish up the "Overview" for the Campaign too. Aces High Campaign

I'm in too.
I got one more question about the campaign rules if you don't mind. The requirement of having kill markings, except for WWI aircraft, is that a strict rule?
I got an AML's Finnish aircraft decal sheet with markings for a Bf-109 G6 (MT-451), flown by Eino Luukkanen, and this plane would make a nice companion to his earlier mount (MT-201) which I've built earlier, but it doesn't have victory markings painted on. It seems that very few, if any, victory markings were painted to 109's in the FAF (at least I didn't find any after a quick lookaround). In fact, this MT-451 was the plane that Luukkanen claimed his last aerial victory with, and his only in this particular plane as well. Flying Bf-109s, he had reached at least five kills on three different planes, MT-201, 415 & 417.
But this is not utterly vital anyway, as I got several other possible entries in my stash. I could do Luukkanen's Brewster with the beer bottle label kill markins, a Morane, or a Fiat G.50...

Hi Eetu.
Actually Im surprised to see that my text has been quoted on the Campaign page, as it was only intended to give a general overview to Campaign HQ,so I will get that edited at the weekend and post some proper text for the page.
I only used WW1 planes as an example of aces aircraft that didnt display kill markings. One of the main reasons for needing a photo of the actual plane modelled is to show an aces machine, especially to provide documentary proof that an ace flew the plane and kill markings were not applied.
So to answer your question Eetu. As long as you have a photo of the plane to show with the finished models photos, and its documented that your plane was flown by an "ace" then yes, your example would certainly qualify for a ribbon.
I see we have 9 entrants so far. 1 more and the Campaign will get official approval!!
