Hi Tanky,
The Academy Spitfire Mk XIVE Scale: 1/48, is a nice kit. The nose is slightly wrong but I shouldn't worry to much about it as it still looks nice.

I can't help you with your chosen paint range but the camouflage colours that you require are:
Lowersurfaces-Medium Sea Grey.
Upper surfaces-Ocean Grey and RAF Dark Green.

When you say "masking kits" I assume that you mean for the canopy? I can't help there either, as I never buy masking sets for canopies. I'm sure that someone will be able to help though
Looking forward to seeing your Spitfire.
Everyone knows that, "you just can't have too many Spitfires".

Hi tanky:

Tamiya kits (Spitfire Mk I and Mk Vb) are also superb kits and very, very easy to build.
If you like the Spitfire Mk IX the Hasegawa is a good one and an easy one too. The ICMs Mk IX, VIII & Mk VII are more accurate (specially in the length) but are a more dificult build.
I love the Spitfire, I believe itīs one of the most beautiful WW2 AC. For painting themI use Model Master Enamels, they have the right colours for the different camo schemes for WW2 RAF AC.
For masking the canopies I donīt know about a set, I use Parafilm M and Tamiya masking tape.

Tamiya Mk I:

Tamiya MkVb:

Hasegawa Mk VI:

Hasegawa Mk IXc:

Hasegawa Mk XVIc:

Good luck and wellcome back to the hobby

Youīre wellcome tanky !
When building the Mk Vb just ask what you need, Iīll help.

Here another pic of a Hasegawa Mk IXc & a Tamiya Mossie (the other WW2 AC that I love):

Getting back to paints I cant seem to get hold od Model Master paints so I am going to stick to Vallego paints, but not reall sure what would be the most accurtae of colours from them. Would you mind having a look on the website and advising me what ones you would choose http://www.acrylicosvallejo.com/ either model air or model or model color

Hi tanky:

Here you have a link that may help you with the colours:
http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/stuff_eng_colorcharts_uk.htm
Here youīll find all the colours used by British aircrafts not only in WW2. The chart gives you diferent paint brands and if it doesnīt exist the colour, how to obtain it mixing diferent shades.

Canīt you buy Model Master via Internet ?

What scheme will you choose, Desert / Malta or Great Britain ?

1) If Desert / Malta the colours are:
Uppersides = Dark Earth - Middle Stone
Undersides = Azurre Blue

2) If Great Britain the colours are:
Uppersides = Dark Green - Ocean Grey
Undersides = Medium Sea Grey.

If you decide to use enamels and MM are not available, you can try Humbrol, they are not the exact match as MM. Before buying them better take a look.
For Scheme 1) Dark Earth (Humbrol 29) - Middle Stone (Humbrol 84) - Azurre Blue (Humbrol 89)
For Schem 2) Ocean Grey (Humbrol 106) - Dark Green (Humbrol 116) - Medium Sea Grey (1*Hu:156 + 1*Hu:34)

Tonight Iīll check the Vallejo Site to see if I can help you. I donīt use Vallejo paints for painting AC, normally only for figures and I know that the names of the shades are diferent.

See you.

Hey carlos,
Thanks again for the info

I had a look yesterday for some uk sites that sold Model Master Paints, and they seem to be non existant??

I men't to say Great Britain Colours most definitely, also I wanted to stay away from Enamels as I have never used then in my Airbrush and wasnt sure on how they would come out and health risks etc now associated with Enamels . I dont have much experiance with my AB and have only sprayed Two models with it, one was with Tamiya Acrylics which came out ok but then I got some vallejo model colour and mixed it with just a few drops of tap Water and the finish was amazing I couldn't belive the difference!

I really appreciate your hep wih this by he way!

Regards
Adam
