Hi Guys
has any body built the 1/35 trumpeter Chinook? can you let me know your opinions on it plus any decent update sets.
I have been looking for some reviews but not really found any
also, how are they armed, miniguns, .50 cals or GPMGs
thanks in advance
cheers

Which version are you asking about? They make a Vietnam era A model and a modern D model. Both are pretty nice. Neither comes with any weapons though. Here is a review of the A model. The D model is basically the same with a different tail and nose section for that version, and a few other parts for the version changes included.
One thing to look out for on both is the rear ramp. The kit instructions have you build the upper portion and glue it into the opening. The actual upper part retracts into the lower part. Here is how I corrected it.
For extra detail, Cobra Company makes a couple resin interior sets for both, Eduard also has a couple sets for each as well.
Depending on which version you build will dictate the weapons loadout. Usually, a standard CH-47 carries an M60D (more recently on D models are the M240D GPMG) out each side of the aircraft (window on port just behind the pilots and in the crew chief door on stapboard) and sometimes carries a .50cal on the rear ramp. There was an interesting A model gunship used in Vietnam as well, but it would take some work to build one.
Overall, they are both great kits and look awesome when done. They are BIG too.
Good luck.

Whoops! It looks like I deleted them from my PhotoBucket acct. I'll upload them again when I get home this evening.
Good luck with it.
EDIT: The pics are reposted and are fine now. Hope it helps.

Keith,
When all your "goodies" show, can you pop up a pic or two of what you've gotten? I too would love to build one of these beasties and it'd be nice to "up detail" it.
Thanks!
Mike

Hey Keith,
I started one over the summer, there are a few photos in my gallery under the Helicopter album. Mine will be an Army National Guard bird...early C' model. Looking forward to seeing yours.

I am actually really looking forward to building one of these, Its being built for the UK IPMS nationals next year as part of my "poles apart display" which means i have to build something in the opposite spectrum to my normal builds.
This will be my first Helicopter model so i may just do a blog build as i go
cheers

i haven't yet decided which Chinook to do, i have the big ed set on its was as well as WWP book on the Chinook. plus some bits from cobra. I'm hoping the WWP book should have most of the information i need.
Its now a case of waiting for it all to arrive, and then finding a interesting colour scheme
I like the start you made on yours, it looks like there is the need for a bit of super detailing as well
