Hi there..

back on my feet again with the first ever props ac since 2001.
I started with tamiya 1/48 FW190 F-8 the ground attack bird.

here's are some of the progress pic so far although some small part have been assembled but i forgot to take the photo.

The wing! i'm quite disappointed with this kit as i expected tamiya kit will never had this. Unfortunately, there is quite distintinve gap between the bottom and upper wing part. This is rather weird for any tamiya kit that i build before... grrrrrrrrrrr

so i have to fill the gap with filler - add a few more hours to the progress speed.

the engine. i think it's ok because not all of it will be seen inside the cowling.

Reinforcement has arrived!!!
CMK details set.

The set contains resin and small PE fret.
It took me 3 hours to assemble the parts. Most of the time i spend was to understand the confusing instructions.
Here's the parts after completed.

Compare with the tamiya cockpit.

The resin seat has straps and belt moulded on the resin. This save a lot of time.

Test fitting the resin cockpit details. It fit perfectly!

Latest update as last night, i already prime the resin parts and painted it with final color. Sorry no photos..too tired to take photos...

And there are several gap in the fuselage join after i fill it for the SECOND TIME. This is really FRUSTATING moment for me. I never expected something so bad with TAMIYA kit. After filling, sanding, buffing and priming for the third time and carefully observed under a bright light with magnifying glass, there is a small visible join or maybe cracked along the fuselage top join. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....... so much quality they said about Mr Tamiya............
Another small update, i fill again the top of the fuselage join with superglue and sanded smooth. Will prime the area again for the fourth or fifth time... cant realy remember
The cokcpit details, dials are painted... will take photos tonight..
there's for now........ comments are welcome as usual.........

Cheers,

Zaidi

I checkrd mine. They seemed to fit together just fine. I wonder if I will ever have the chance to build it though. I have a closet full of Eduard 190's, calling to me. Can you hear them?

the cockpit... not very good result... but few will be visible..

I fix the cockpit and then carry on with the rest of the build. I joined the wings and the fuselage.

As expected, there's gap between the join. So i fill up with superglue. Some of the pics

another update..

gap between the wing and the fuselage

filled with filler and then sanded ... this is the most sanding job i ever done on any kit. I guess the original kit is thinner about 1mm or more after all the sanding..

Preshading process

I coat with Mr Surfacer White at the area where yellow is to be painted...

FFor this build, i choosed Eagle Strike decals "In Defense of the Reich" set. The marking that i choose is at the center scheme.

Painted with RLM Yellow

The Vac-Form Canopy after treated with FUTURE and fix in place with white glue.

I masked the yellow color and continue

There's a small rectangular area where no 4 marking would be place. it should be painted with RLM 02 Grey. I masked the area with blue tac

that's for now

Very nice work!

I'm a bit surprised by the filler you've had to use though, i did this exact kit a few years back and i mainly remember it for not using any filler. Maybe the quality isn't always the same even for the same kits over time? Doesn't matter, you sorted it out well.

another update

after the decal is done with all the treatment, time to do one of my fav method for highlighting the panel lines... it was called sludge wash.
Basically it just a wash consist of paint and dish washing detergent. I havent done this for millenium.
The ration is 1 paint : 3 dish washer...
i used mixture of vallejo black and raw umber colors in 2:1 ratio.
Simply stir it not shake!!

and apply to the model along the lines. Doesnt need to be precise here. Just apply in normal brush.

I used more lighter shade of grey at the bottom fuselage.

When it's dried, (probably after 30-60 mins), simply wipe away the wash with paper towel, cotton bud and whatever things that will do the job
the color will 'trapped' inside all the recess..

All it need now is a flat coat

flat coating in progress. In the event i accidently drop the whole bottle of my flat coat solution and lost almost all of it.. there's go my money

finally test the display base...

that's for now..

Good looking butcher bird. I've used the same sludge wash technique and it is an easy way to get some good results. Looking forward to seeing this one complete. Thanks for sharing your work! "Q"
