Whatho Chaps,I`m normally an armour modeller but i`ve developed a taste for 1/32 scale aircraft. My problem is that i`ve gotten hold of a Mosquito and i would love to do a tribute to Guy Gibson by modelling the aircraft that this great man lost his life in but i can`t find any pictures to find out what the squadron codes and markings were. Can anyone out there help ?.

His aircraft was "borrowed" from 627 Sqn. It was a Mosquito B Mk XX, built in Toronto, serial number KB267, coded AZ-E.

At that time 627 sqn aircraft carried the dayfighter cam scheme (Ocean Grey/Dark Green over Sea Grey), codes were red with a yellow outline, possibly Black or Ocean Grey spinners and possibly invasion stripes on the fuselage and wings. The spinners and invasion stripes show up on some but not on other aircraft from photos taken in Aug '44. There are no known photos of KB267.

Eaglestrike makes a 1/48 scale decal sheet with their interpretation of W/C Gibson's markings, available thru Squadron. Decal sheet

Cheers

Hi Dan.
The Mosquito in the RAF Museum Cosford is painted to represent Gibsons aircraft.
Ive just checked the photos from my last visit and I dont have any, but Im sure someone on here will have some they could post.

If it is still painted Earth/Green over Black, posters on the Mossie.org site have called this representation "wildly Inaccurate". A piece of KB267's aft fuselage (partial roundel and serial number) was recovered from the crash site and is held at RAFM Stafford that apparently indicates the Grey/Green over Lt Grey scheme.

Cheers,
Rick

Hi Murdo,as per the previous post the kit is an oop one from revell but be prepared to pay mega bucks for it.Mine set me back £50.00 including postage and it`s still pretty basic as it was first produced around 1991 but it is the only player in town at the moment.

Thanks guys! I had no idea there was a 1/32 Mossie.

I already have the 1/32 Beaufighter and it is huge! I'd love to add the Mossie to the collection.
