Did Luftwaffe pilots fly barefoot? I mean like in the summer, just in shorts, shirt and life vest?
Just wondering for future project that I had in mind!

Most likely they're gonna have some kind of footwear on in case they have to bale out, but that footgear probably could vary. Case in point (even though he's Navy): Ira Kepford wore sneakers fairly often when flying combat with VF-17 in the south Pacific.

Planes are always prone to taking fire, so flying withoutfootwear is plain and siple stupid.
Also, the rudder pedals are made of metal, so you'll be more comfortable with something on your feet. And bailing out bare-foot wouldn't be comfortable either !
But I don't know. maybe some pilots chose to fly bare-foot.
