I am getting a pulsing effect with my paasche millennium, using properly thinned Floquil enamel primer cut 75/25 paint/thinner I have variable paint flow at any pressure I am useing an inexpensive Husky air compressor that has a small air reserve tank .I am confident that the new airbrush is functioning properly and have become quite adept a disassembling it to clean.I feel the paint application is not optimal like this do you think a quality airbrush compressor will solve the problem? had a testors mini blue compressor that I threw away...very poor performance I am thinking about a Paasche compressor in the under $150.00 range.

What is the capacity of the tank and is the compressor running when you're spraying?
If you have a pressure regulator in the line and the pressure is set below that of the output pressure of the compressor, you shouldn't get pulsing for the most part. Pulsing is more likely to occur if you're spraying while the compressor is running.

Typically, you're more likely to get pulsing on the diaphragm type compressors which run continuously when you're spraying.

Hi Dave

If you're using a compressor with even a small reserve tank, I doubt the pulsing is due to the compressor. Sounds more like an air leak in the airbrush. A common cause of pulsing is a leak where the sprayhead screws onto the body of the brush. I'm not familiar with that brush, but it it's the type of head that has an o-ring or teflon seal at that joint, the ring or seal may be bad. Other types of sprayheads can be sealed by applying beeswax to the threads, heating the wax slightly with a match or lighter, and quickly screwing it together. A leak in the needle packing could also probably cause pulsing.

I have had from experience with my badger airbrushes that the use of "harsh" thinners when cleaning can expand any rubber o rings, the one for the trigger where the air line attaches on the badger is the most common as that is normally missed when cleaning. more often than not when I get pulsating that is the first thing I check nowadays and after replacing the o ring the problem is resolved.

Hope this helps.

it pulses even when it is running off the small reserve tank (1.7gallon) so as it seems to be a leak somewhere as suggested that might be my problem the brush is nearly new.I am going to buy a dedicated compressor with tank soon and meanwhile try and find where the potential leak is, thanks guys and again this is a great site! seems like my compressor is good for inflating tires only and the onboard regulator is bogus.
