Howdy all!
Here are some pictures of Italeri's 1/72 Mistel I im building for the Aerodrome campaign. I wanted to make it with one engine visible for maintenance purpose.
I used a 1/72 Jumo engine made by Extra Tech for this. It took me approx 20 hours to build the engine and add a considerable amount of scratchbuild stuff to it.
The first photo is for comparison: it shows the "naked" engine of Extra Tech when build.

Enjoy the pics!

:-) Very good engine detailing, Dolf and in 1/72 wow. I've never tried this in 1/48!
Do you have references for the Mistel? I am building the S2 version, I only have one picture, the one with the ladder poking up on the far side that Dragon took to be upward firing guns doh :-) Also their colour scheme seems based on the shadows thrown by the camouflage netting, as it depics odd mottle over the uper surface of the FW 190
Are you building the Bf 109 with wheels up or down? I'm building my FW 190 with the wheels up, my thoughts on this are that you just wouldn't want the extra drag of the landing gear. I've seen several models of Mistels and all had their wheels down. Logically, to me anyway, they should be up. :-)
Looking good, can't wait to see it finished

Hi,
Thor, real nice work you have done detailling the engine.
Good to know that the campaign it's running ok for you. Keep the good work.

Thanks for your reactions everyone!

Hiya Mal,
I do not use specific reference about the mistel, but more of the separate aircraft. I use Squadrons Ju 88 and Me 109 in action and Janes' s WWII aircraft. Of course internet provides me with lots of reference too. I did came across a couple of very good reference books in this HUGE aviation hobby shop i sometimes visit, but they were a bit expensive...about 80-90 Euro (maybe you know the shop, it is the biggest in Holland, maybe even Europe! => this is their website: www.lhshop.nl.............definitely worth a visit!)
Hehe, i too have Dragon' s Mistel S2 laying around, but guessed that some practice in 1/72 was first needed before i begin building this beast
As for the building of the Me 109, im going along with your thoughts: im building it with its wheels up.
Happy modeling

Wow, the stock engine is unrecognizable. You really have to look for it. VERY nice job in such a small scale.
Question/comment - the props look awfully close to the coweling. Is this supposed to be that way or is it a kit/fit deal?

Well Slodder, from reference photos of the ju 88 i know that there is very little space between the props and the coweling. So it is supposed to be that way, but i must admit that with this model the props are almost on top of the coweling!
