Hi all,

I am really puzzled by my Tamiya F-14a paint instructions. I want to build the VF-154 CAG bird (number 100). The instructions tell me to paint the bottom side light grey and the topside dark grey. The kit comes with low viz decals. Here is what puzzles me: I have one pic of this bird with high viz markings and it seems it has been painted in only one shade of grey. I also have a picture of it with two shades of grey and low viz markings (like te Tamiya instructions)

So what is my problem?

Why does the Tamiya model on the box and every model built by someone I find on the net have one shade of grey AND low viz markings??? Has this plane actually flown with this combination of paint and markings? I think it is the best looking scheme so I would like to build it like that.

Can anybody help me??

Thanks Fred,

after checking airliners.net I found out that the Tamiya scheme seems to be correct, however the differences in shades of grey on the real Tomcat are much more subtle than the Tamiya paint suggestions. The model on the Tamiya box also seems to be painted in this subtle scheme. I think I go for that too.
