I've read lots about dealing with inlaid panel lines and how to use pre-shade techniquies, but can anything be done with raised panel lines?

Yes, leave them alone!

Raised panel lines ( and rivets ) are valid surface details on some models. They are not popular because they are overscale on older models, and if you have to fill / sand seams, you destroy them. So they are a pain. But many aircraft from ( and since, e.g., helicopters ) WW2 had raised structural assemblies: B-17, F4F Wildcat, TBF Avenger, PBY, C-47, F6F Hellcat's fuselage--all were festooned with raised rivets.

So, just as it is fashionable to preshade panel lines, consider leaving the ( appropriate ) raised detail alone, and drybrush a slightly lighter tint of your color over them.

I agree with what JPTRR says. I also think that pre-shading panel lines is a waste of time, just to come out and say it. This may anger some but the real aircraft are not pre-shaded so why should the model be done so. It just dosen't look right to me in the end. That is my two cents worth, hope it dosen't offend anyone to badly; that is how I see it though. Take care. Russell

Eliminate them!

I don't like raised panel lines! If I see some on a model... yeaarrkkk!

I also prefer engraved rivets than the old Monogram or Airfix ones. While they may be more accurate I think they look awful and overscale on a model kit...

I also like pre and post shading as a model without just don't look good to me... too flat... too boring...

Of course that's only my personal opinion based on my own taste... so it means nothing!
