New modeler (1:48) looking to build tribute to WWII aircraft. Looking for scale hangars/buildings/vehicles/landscape, etc. Any suggestions/links?

For buildings, model railroad stuff might be a good source, if I remember 1/48 translates to N scale in the RR community. As for links, there are a lot of sources for such things. Greatmodels has loads of stuff, and might carry RR, and they are an advertiser here as well. http://www.greatmodels.com/ Let us know how things progress.

1/48 is O Scale in model railroading--in USA; in UK they use 1/43. N scale is 1/160.

Plenty of O scale available, but it gets pricey. Here's a great company I use: Schomberg Scale Models

Tamiya is releasing lots of 1/48 vehicle kits that fit nicely into aviation dioramas. So is Hasegawa.

From where do you hale? Wisconsin has an abundance of O gauge RR modelrs, but finding militry related buildings is tough and pricey. Making simple buildings is easy and given the size most folks just make the fronts...a hanger large enough to house a 1:48 fighter would be big, one to hold a bomber would be huge!

I think some of the airfield stuff is made of wood but I can't comment on the quality of these products because I don't know them...
