I can’t believe I’m doing this but I will have a crack with the Italeri 1/32 F117 that I bought yesterday (for SWMBO at least that’s what she believes). I am going to attempt to do a stars and strips version which may or may not be accurate so help will be required, but even I can spray black paint.

I have now started my 1/72 Berkut. This is one big aircraft!

I build the cockpit OOB and added the pilot figure in the kit. I plan to show this aircraft in the air so the kit included pilot figure is very helpful.

More to follow.....

I have now finished construction of my Berkut. A simple build if one pay attention to the scale plans. Not everything is in the "normal" place on this aircraft

This plane is huge - even in 1/72 scale. I have placed next to my 1/72 Bf 109 for comparison to give an idea of the size of this bird.

Next is a base coat and some experimental camouflage.....

Here is progress on my Berkut.

I wanted to make a fictive stealth camouflage for my Berkut inspired by the latest SU-35 Flanker. My camouflage scheme might not be fictive - it might actually be a real existing camouflage - it is just very stealthy and secret

I went for an air superiority scheme based on a bit of white and two greys. I used a sharp edge between the colours to reflect some of the current Russian camouflage schemes fx. used on the latest SU-35 Flanker.

It has turned out quite okay, although I still need to paint all the details and correct a few touch ups on the camouflage.
I think my next aircraft must be with a very limited amount of masking - phew

More to follow....

Very cool Jesper. On a whim I bought a kitech 1/72 f-117 on ebay for .99c. Should arrive in the next few days. So I'll chuck my hat in the ring with this. Anyone any experience with this kit? or know of it's providence?

Thanks for the comment, JP.

You got yourself a cheap build there. I do not know much about them, so I am looking forward to see more about that kit.

Yep, only one tin of paint needed too!
Well the kit arrived today. Wow it is big! 26cm long in 72 scale
You get two sprues of pretty horrible toy plastic seems to be more eurthane than styrene.
The main plane is two pieces a top and a bottom.
Raised panel lines and lots of injector marks. Some detail in the bomb bay and a bunch of weapon.
First impressions? You get what you pay for

Here is my finished Sukhoi 37 Berkut. A pleasant build with reasonably good details and a good fit despite the rather strange shape of the aircraft

It was a joy to participate in this campaign and try something that did not fly in 1939-45. I am looking forward to see many more interesting aircraft in this campaign

Haha, got the cutting edge american flag decals off ebay too for the f-117. I'm looking forward to starting this budget build.

Got to finish my wee spit and 109 first though. That 's the one plus of not having a workbench no room for
unfinished projects.

Jesper thats a great build I like what you've done with the camo.

Well after all the colour here is my 1/144 YF-23 Blackwidow II finished.

And here is how I'm doing with my second build.

It's an old kit from LS in 1/144 which I managed to find second hand but upon opening I found it has no canopy so I'm going to have a cover over the cockpit.

Ciao

Thanks for the comment, Littorio.

Your YF-23 looks good - and is 100% in the spirit of the campaign - very black - both in colour and technology

Too bad about the cockpit on the Blackbird, but I think cockpits were often covered to avoid too hot cockpit and dirt/scratches on the cockpit glazing.

Looking forward to see more

Despite my reservations the kitech f-117 goes together alright, just a lot of flash to clean up.
It is basically just a top half, bottom half, rudders and a cockpit. The cockpit is a bit rubbish,
and the landing gear is too, but I'm building it wheels up so you can see the flag scheme underneath
anyway.
Sprayed the bottom half white with a rattle can. Masked up and painted the stripes. Leaving it to dry
now and resisting the strong temptation to pull the tape off. Might work ok with airbrushes but I think
it will be a big no no with brush paint.

Will pics once masks removed. There are masks and decals for the stars. I'm using the decals since I
have no airbrush, if anyone wants the masks PM me. Cutting edge 1:72.
