Hello everyone,

I am primarily an armor builder, but have been inspired to build a naval TBM/F Avenger in 1:48 scale.

Can anyone give me a recommendation for a kit. I saw one by Accurate Miniatures, but have never built a kit by this company.

Thanks,

You could probably go with the Monogram kit, but if you were to do that I would recommend getting the Eduard sets for it. I have the very same kit sitting next to my desk waiting for an excuse to be built. I can't justify starting it having three builds going for campaigns! hope that helps. I do'nt know of any other avenger kits.

Good choice! That's a real good out of the box kit! You wont be disapointed.

Italeri's Avenger is a re-boxing of AM's kit, with decal sheet for six marking options (IIRC).
Same plastic, different box.
And yes, it looks superb. I've got one in my stash waiting to be built.

Also, I have the impression that Eduard is going to re-release the Avenger as well, which will most certainly equate to masks and PE goodies, in addition to high-quality decals, to be found in the box.

Hi Errin,

I too mostly build armour but come the 1/32 trumpeter avenger I just had to get it .

Huge build for an armour modeller to make out of the box .
no etch or superdetailing .

The AM Avenger is a great build right out of the box. But, Eduard has PE for the -1 and -3 variants (cockpit, turret, aft area, flaps), and Verlinden has the engine compartment and wing gunbays. Lone Star Models has the resin wingfold.

Thanks again everyone for the prompt replies.

Rob- I also intend to paint my Avenger using an Atlantic camouflage scheme. Let me know the colors you choose.

Mike- Your Avenger is looking great so far!

the avenger is a cool airplane, i´m working on Trumpeters 1/32 TBM-3 avenger my self.
Hopes more people want´s to build it, I think that the almost 500 parts scares people away.
Anyway the accurate 1/48 avenger probably be the way to go
Btw: Michael Really nice work on yours !

Cheers

I have the Trump kit also. It looks like a real handful. It also looks to be a very good kit. If this is your choice of airplane, consider the Trump kit. Be warned though. It will take up a lot of space when completed.

Hi Rob,

Late response to the thead but I've been using the modelmaster colours straight
out of the bottle.
I think modelmaster have got an excellent match on thier
"dark sea blue"

Also when you start the tbf, can we see some preview photo's of the avenger with the etch and resin

cheers
