Hi Guys,

I am trying to find the correct RLM numbers to paint the ME - 262. I have had this waiting for paint for literally years!
The cammo is hard edged dark green and black on top and a whitish colour on the bottom.

Does any one know what the Schwalbe bit is about?

Thanks,
Phil.

Sorry I can't help with the paint colors, but Schwalbe was a nickname meaning "swallow".

Hi Phil

I'm not sure where the mention of black came from - that doesn't match any of my references...

Early Me 262s were delivered in the mid-war Luftwaffe dayfighter colours of RLM 74/75/76. The standard official factory colour scheme for Me 262As was RLM 81 and 82 green topsides and RLM 76 undersides, but there was a lot of variation in how it was applied - and the undersides were often partly unpainted (especially in the final months of fighting).

That's massively over-simplifying a subject that fills whole books(!), but I hope it helps.

All the best

Thanks Rowan,

That is a great help! Think I will dig out my colorcoats this afternoon!

Hi Phil
The Messerschmitt Me 262 Schwalbe (German: "Swallow") was the world's first operational turbojet fighter aircraft.

The 262 was introduced first as a fighter/bomber named 'Sturmvogel' (Stormbird).
It was later the schwalbe fighter version was introduced.

Good luck with your build and camo.
There are many references of schemes around and many can be found at various after-market decal manufacturers' sites.

Good hunting.
Peter
