Hi,

Anyone familiar with the FineMolds Yokosuka D4Y1/2/3 Judy kit?

They’re rather pricey therefore I’d like to hear the comment/opinion before committing on one.

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers

Hi Kim!

I've built the kit not long ago for the "Flattop" Campaign and I must say it's a fine kit. I encountered no big problems with it. Surface detail is very nice and the detail is good thanks to the white metal parts included in the box. Pictures of my model can be found here.

Unfortunately, for the Judy, there aren't many references on the web...

Hi Jean-Luc,

Many thanks for your reply.

Excellent piece of work you've there. Good inspiration!

You mentioned that you've replaced the canopy - was it too thick or did it don't fit well?
And what was the issue with the decals?

Thanks again.

Cheers

Hi Ken!

The canopy was to small to display it in the opened position like I wanted. I don't remember exactely what the problem was with the decals. They were probably too old...

Good luck with your build!

Not all D4Ys are created equal... Later versions of the kit replaced the white metal parts with plastic. but as a result were a fair bit cheaper. I've not seen the two side-by-side but I imagine the earlier version is slightly finer. On the plus side, the availability of the newer version should depress the older one's price slightly.
