Hi all,
I just picked up at the LHS Hase's 1/48 Corsair in French Navy livery and want to get the usual A.M. goodies. I notice Eduard has P.E. for the F4U-5 but not the -7, are the cockpits the same? Would -5 after market stuff be appropriate? I probably won't start this one for a little bit (Revell Bf-110 is waiting for me), so I have time to look, but thought I'd ask here first.

Hi Derek!
According to Wing Masters n°21 (build article of Hasegawa's F4U-7), the weak points of the kit are the following:
1 - Wrong instrument panel: the kit's part represents the F4U-5 version with the radar screen. The french F4U-7 panel was without radar screen.
2 - The instrument consoles on the sides must be placed higher by approx. 2,5 mm.
3 - The engine exhausts are placed in the wrong position. If you glue them as per instructions, the cowling won't fit properly. Dry fit first.
4 - The tyres are to thin. Those of the F4U-7 should be wider.
You will also have to find a K-14 gunsight for this version...
There was a conversion kit available made by Hi-Tech for this version. It was destined to the Heller kit but the parts can be adapted to the Hasegawa kit (instrument panel, tyres etc...). I don't know if it is still available though. Some aftermarket stuff made for the F4U-5 version can be used as well but not all the parts I'm afraid. The best would be to have good pictures of the cockpit of the F4U-7. Unfortunately I don't have many references about the Corsair...
