whew, I can finally say that word, finished. I glued on the last pair of ordanence last night, 2 AIM-9 Sidewinders from a Hasegawa weapons set. This was a fun build, I loved the quality of the Black Box cockpit set, the Two Bobs decals, but can't exactly say the same for Italeri's kit. I did buy their 2 seater version which I'm working now (the Black Box set for that just arrived along with Two Bob's markings for VFA-14's sister squad, VFA-41 The Black Aces). On to the pics!
enjoy!

Ya know, it's a brave man that displays pics of his aircraft taken head-on. Great job, man.

Pony, nice lookin' bug. Must have missed this post earlier. Really, really nice. I love the loadout.
A couple things that I'm going to have to research: I think the gear doors are outlined in red on the inside and does the intake stay white on the inside as you have it?
A great Hornet to be proud of. Well done.

In my research, I did find this (be sure to look at the hi-res versions to see the detail:
http://www.news.navy.mil/view_single.asp?id=7001
http://www.news.navy.mil/view_single.asp?id=6814
In looking through quite a few pics it looks like you have the intakes correct (white part-way in) and the red outline on the is on more than not. Either way, nice build.
Here's the link for the Navy News Gallery which is where I found those pics:

yeah, I got a quick lesson in checking references. Assuming that it happened with all Navy aircraft because I had seen it on F/A-18C's along F-14's and S-3's, I painted the door edges red. Then I found this photo of the VFA-14's CAG bird and saw plain edges
http://www.news.navy.mil/view_single.asp?id=5514
it seems like alot of the Super Hornets are arriving with plain door edges.
here's my next subject:
http://www.news.navy.mil/view_single.asp?id=5649
using Italeri's 1/48 F/A-18F, a Black Box cockpit set and Two Bobs decals, same as the E model. Should be fun :-)

I thought most people knew about it. Certainly wasn't trying to hord it...lol! I'll post a new topic in the a/c forum letting people know about it because you can get some great reference shots.
