Greetings all I have received this and thought that we might all have a general consensus. Please post suggestions for 1/32 - 1/48
Dear Mr. Stephen Lawson!
Thank you a lot for your message. We regularly visit sites and forums and they help us to avoid disadvantages of our model kits and perfect them. We are busy now with a new schedule of 2009 and would be very grateful to you if you can offer us some suggestions fo model kit subjects in 1/32 and 1/48 scale for producing.
Thank you! Best wishes,
Sincerely, Production staff
Roden Ltd
I would suggest;

1. Pup in both land and shipboard versions in both scales.
2. Snipe in both single and dual bay versions at least in 1/48.

I will not try to make a "wish list" too esoteric but here are a few I would like to see.
Sopwith Dolphin in 1/48 scale with the Snipe and Salamander as well.
Gotha III, IV, V in 1/48 scale.
Friedrichshaven G III in 1/72 and 1/48 scale.
Halberstadt CL.II and CL.IV in 1/48 scale.
L.V.G. C IV in 1/48 scale..... in fact, just about ANY 2 seaters. I have the B.E. 2c, Strutter, F.2B and DH4 in my collection.
SIemens DIII and DIV. I believe these would be excellent choices in 1/32, 1/48 and 1/72 scales.
In 1/32 scale it would be nice to see a Fokker D VII, an Albatros D V and DVa as well as a good Nieuport 17.
I know its alot to ask for but any of these would be most welcome on my shelves.

Well speaking of seaplanes .........
IJN Type 95 trainer 'Willow' in 1/32
Also a IJN 'Pete' , don't know the numerical code ID,also in 1/32
The Willow is long out of production in 1/32 and last done by Entex or Nitto, maybe one other.
I don't think the Pete was ever done in 1/32. This started out as a trainer I think but was used for everything between trainer and Kamikazi.
I know Roden usually does only WW1 subjects but,............these do have TWO wings.
What say ye,merry gentlemen?
Cheers!

I know that they can only do a limited number of new kits, so i'll keep the list to the main 3 i'd like to see:
1. Fokker DVII in 1/32 (i don't really buy or build 1/32 but this would be an exception)
2. Siemens Schuckert series in 1/48
3. Junkers J1 in 1/48
A Sopwith Tripe would be nice, but Eduard have done it already, and if you look at all of Rodens range you'll notice they never duplicate what Eduard have already covered in the same scale. The Fokker DVII in 1/48 being an exception, but was done by Roden first remember.

Howdy,
I for one would like to see in 1/48:
Halberstadt Cl-II and Cl-IV
Phalz D-VIII
Spad XII
Albatros C-III
and in 1/32:
Phalz D-XII
Halberstadt Cl-II and Cl-IV
Fokker D-VII
I'm glad to see they want our input.

Folks!
Since Roden is a manufacturer of long run injection kits, we have to be realistic with our wishes. And most of your wishes are reasonable indeed. But Stephen, Fokker prototypes? Er... are you sure?
Anyway, here's my suggestions which are mostly echoing wishes already written down by you gentlemen:
all in 1/48:
Sopwith Pup
SE5
SSW D.III - IV
Halberstadt C. II, III or V
Halberstadt Cl. II
Hannover Cl.II, Cl.IIIa
Albatros C.I, C.III, C.V or C.VII
LVG C.V or C.VI
Gotha G. types
Handley Page 0/400
Vickers Vimy (with the famous civil versions included of course)
The German 2 seaters are realistic, I think,if Roden sells their British 2 seaters reasonably well. So let us all buy them a lot!! Popular bombers in 1/48 might be realistic, too, since boys like us in their 50s and with a lot of pocket money like to buy big and fancy boxes, no matter what the price!
A new Spad VII in 1/48 would be cool, too, but I'm not sure if it is realistic, since there is still the Special Hobby kit around. But then again, if Roden has done it already in1/32, scaling down might be possible with reasonably expenses, or what?
Yours Mikko

Greetings Mikko;
It makes sense from a production standpoint. The basic elements of the V (prototype) series, were often common to two or three fuselage types with wing extenstions or modifications. They already have the basics down. Beats starting from scratch?

All my wants you guys have nailed it down . More Greman two seaters would be nice .
It does get a little dull seeing the same aircraft over and over like Eduard seems to do .
I would like to a DH-2 , Siemans-Schuckert D.III , DV , Pfalz DR.I .
either way what ever they come out with I will get in 1/48

Hi Stephen
That's an exciting list and lots of great suggestions. I'd definitely snap up a Fokker D.VII in 1/32 scale - a DH2 and a Bristol M1C would be great too.
In 1/48 scale, I go along with the call for some German 2-seaters and how about a Salmson 2A2 and a Vickers Gunbus.
All the best
Rowan

Fokker D.VII

German 2 seaters
I would like to send congratulations to Roden on their many fine kits. I do think they put out well detailed, challenging and interesting kits.
I also would like to say it is good that they really listen to what we have to say. On this site, we represent the kit consumers of the world. We may only be a small fraction of the people who buy kits worldwide, but if we like something, and state it here on the forum, it can make or break a kits popularity. To have a major manufacturer ask us what we want is great. I know it will probably take years to see any of these kits actually come to fruition. But I dont mind waiting a few years for a really good kit. I would love to see some of their 1/48th kits grow to 1/32. And I do believe they would sell well. I know I would buy any of those without hesitation.
I can honestly say that Roden puts out a wide variety of kits that appeal to numerous specialties within the modeling world. I have a closet full of kits from Roden, and plan on buying many more.
Thank You Roden.

Have no fear sir. Just because they didn't ask for 1/72 input probably means thaty have their subjects already chosen. They just can't announce it. Like this inquiry. They asked me what I would want. Knowing what I build regularly. I am the one that opened it up to the forum. Mea Culpa

OK Stephen! That makes sense. They actually have announced quite a few esoteric DH4 variations, probably based on the same idea!

Fokker C1 (please please, shouldn't be too hard, most basics already issued)
Fokker DVI
Sopwith Pup
Sopwith Dolphin
Halberstadt CLII
All 48 scale.
@ Stephen: there were Mig's with props as well!

Yea, that might have come off the wrong way. However, I'm not too hopeful since there is no 1/72nd on the In Progress page, and they seem to be increasing the number of 1/48th and 1/32nd - even if they didn't ask you personally.
There are tons Roden could do, and that's just keeping with the French subjects I would love to see. Move to the German side and the list becomes even longer. Heck, they could even do a couple of Russian subjects that either haven't been done in injection (Grigorovich flying boats come to mind) or done inaccurately (like the Dakoplast Sikorsky S-16).
Oh well, enough pontificating and whining.

Hi Matt,
We all have our wish lists of our favourite subjects, esoteric or not.
I guess we have to accept that it all comes down in the end to a commercial decision.
1/48 or 1/32 tooling is not going to cost that much more (in terms of the actual moulds) than 1/72 tooling. The development might be a little more time consuming and involved, depending on the additional detail that might go into the larger scale kits, but in the end, the sale of the kits has to cover the cost of the tooling and it's development. This is much more easily achieved with the larger scale kits, because although they have not cost say twice or three times as much as the 1/72 kits to produce, you can charge twice or three times as much in both wholesale and retail (And people will pay it, happily).
However, I would hate to see this thread get hijacked and turned into an argument on the commercial aspects of kit manufacture, so here is my list of esoteric and not so subjects.
1/48
Felixtowe F2a, F3 and F5
Short Type 184 (Float and Wheled Undercarraige)
Sopwith Pup, Cookoo, Camel, Tripe, Swallow, Salamander, Snipe, Snark, Batboat, etc... (and a revised Strutter)
BE2a and b
RE8
Maurice Farman Shorthorn
Caproni Ca3
Vikkers Gun Bus
Vikker Vimi
Albatros two seaters
Spads VII, XII and XIII
Hansa Bandenburg W12 and W24

BE2a, b, c and e
BE12a and b

Here it is. I'll leave this thread open for a few more days then I will tabulate the results and send them on to Roden with my recommendations. There are no guaruntees but at least they asked and I'll respond.

OK not a great WWI builder but just starting into it, but here goes with a few 1/48
Sopwith Pup
RE8
German two seaters
Bristol MC1
Bristol Bullet
Something Italian, They did take part you know.
I don't do 1/32 but one aircraft I would buy would be a:
Bristol F2b 'Biff'
Oh if Roden are listening for 1/72 how about a Sopwith Pup as the nice but old Airfix kit is now hard to find.
Ciao
