Specifically, from where did they generate their electrical power? I am working on a diorama and realized. . ."where did they get power from?" any pictures or references would be greatly appreciated.

Most single seater units were not issued have power generators. In short They had dispatch riders that sent daily information out or brought information in. Field telephones were used but on a limited basis.

Later in the war some two seater and bombing units had petrol operated field generators. These had an axle with two metal wheels and a trailer tongue to be hitched to a unit transport truck. Shep Paine described this generically as looking like the front half to a farm tractor.

There would be two magneto setups that would;
1. Start the generator (Along with a back up hand crank.)
2. Convert the electricity produced to a useable current for station power.

A fellow who had been an electrician before the war could (with a little help from the unit mechanics) build this in the field.
