Top of the evening all....
I became distracted from a cutaway project a few days ago after recieving the materials to build up the prototype of an "MI dio" (Mirror/Matrix Image) idea I had!
It seemed plausible, so I chose the Hasegawa 1/200 B-732 and used one of the Pioneer mirrored bottom 1/24 model car display cases as test subjects. It may even be a nice way to make a model appear suspended in mid air?
Here's how it came out:
For the runway surface, I used a sanded piece of balsa, which worked out great because it stressed into place beautifully when the box was assembled.
Now why build something like this if you don't display it to maximum affect? To acheive a jaw-drop shock value to your display, sit it somewhere so the sky reflects in the mirror.... like on a shelf in front of a big window, and get ready for some serious WOW's!! :o
And here's one where you can see the Flap job.
The possibilities are vurtually endless!
Enjoy,
Frank

Frank -
That is really amazing! Being a lover of multiengine props it mean I'd only have to detail two engines in stead of 4!
Great idea!

Thanks for all the kind words!
Things have moved with lightning speed since first intriducing the MI techinique, and I am proud to report that a major Display Model Manufacturer wants to produce and market the technique!! I recieved my IP Patent Pending certification already and the prototype is at the manufacturers offices as we speak, undergoing detailed inspection.
I've done very well at containing my excitement, up until this morning when in his email he was saying things like; "I really feel this is going all the way to the top", and "...since you already have the IP Patent, it opens doors for larger production down the road"
...... now the excitement INSIDE is starting to spill out!!!!
Take care,
Frank

Hey folks....
Just updating things a bit here; If all goes as planned, there will be a "MID Kit" on the market before Christmas.
It will consist of a uniquely shaped display case, first surface mirror backing, hardware & instructions to build your own display with your own model.
In addition, each "kit" will include a half of a resin generic 1/200 airliner (various Boeing, Airbus, and MD aircraft) of your choice with mounting bolts installed for Collectors and those who'd prefer to do the 'finishing' instead of 'building'. (also a discount coupon for a second "kit" so the half kit left in the box won't be left out!) [;]
Everything's worked out really well with the deal, and I will update as it becomes available.
Take care,
Frank
