I want to model a late P-51 for a WWII flyer. His plane's decals are available in 1/48. I am looking for ease of construction, but some nice details. No super details like engines or cockpits, but a nice kit. No PE will be used, since this is the first plane in a long, long time.

The Tamiya is a nice kit, easy to build, well detailed, and has the dropped flaps seen on P51s after the pressure in their hydraulic systems dropped. Its a great kit built straight out of the box.

I give another vote for Tamiya. Their P-51 series are really well engineered, and make for a stress-free build. I have some of the ICM P-51's as well, and agree they look remarkably similar. I feel the quality of the plastic used makes Tamiya my preferred kit.

Good luck with your project, and we'd love to see some pics.

Cheers,
Mike

I have ordered a Tamiyakit and decals. Since, I have built several of their armored kits over the years. The veteran who flew the "Croghan Cruiser" lives here, Croghan, New York area and I plan it as a thank you for his service. Talking with his family for info and references.

Hopefully I'll figure out how to post pictures of the progress and the finished plane.

That is such a cool idea! I think that you and he will be pleased with the Tamiya kit.
