Hey all.
I am a die hard F-4 fan. and now that its 2008, most phantoms have been phased out. left to rot or have been scrapped. 2020 is the year for the last F-4 Flight.
I know that 5195 F-4 phantoms were ever built. but how many are left knowing that the U.S are using them for target drones at the moment. its very sad seing these birds with bright red wing tips, or seing them in a heap.
So does anyone know how many are left?

When I talked to the commander of the QF program this past summer the US had some 97 airframes available for use as drones. He said something about 2012-2016 as the end of that program then a switch to QF-16A will begin.

The F-16A's first started service in 1978, so I guess you could say being 28 years old is old for an aircraft.

I don't know about that. I work on 1957 thru 1963 models now. They're not fighters (KC-135Rs). I was a Phantom Phixer back in the 80's though. Now I'm filling old.

We still fly them with pride(I mean TuAF, not me, I am not thet lucky I just watch them with awe) Spain and Japan are still flying the electric eyed ones as far as I know. Not sure about Germany.
QF-16 ehehehe I would like to see that buggers got hit in tests:] I wrote this somewhere but can't remember where...Wouldn't it be devilishly funny if there would be a thing called QF-117 target drone hehehehhe....
