Hi all

I have experienced a very strange problem on my kit I entered for the Falklands war campaign. After it has been standing on the shelve for some months a strange white "mist" has spread to parts of the fuselage. It is impossible to remove with water. I am quite sure it is not some form of spray from my work place as other kits standing right next to it does not show any signs of the strange surface "mist".

Does anybody know what it could be?
How to remove it?
How to avoid it in the future?

It looks similar to what I had once, I believe (well for me) that the old tin of humbrol matt varnish I thinned and airbrushed, once the thinner had evaporated the matt varnish went a white colour. This was over a couple of days rather than months. In the end I paint stripped, got a replacement set of decals and started again.

Hope this is of some help.

it looks indeed like you have used bad varnish.

I would recommend (on a place where it is not too visible) to give it an extra layer of quality gloss varnish. This could solve the problem. Afterwards (when absolutely dry) you can apply an extra layer of matt again

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

I think, I will try the varnish solution to see if I can bring back the finish.

Hi Jesper -

You might want to consider the relative humidity when you use varnish. I have seen it assume a milky appearance when there's too much moisture.

I avoid spraying non-acrylics when it's humid, or during heavy rain.

Thanks for the tip, steve.

This could actually be the problem, but would it show up several months later? Would it not be visible almost right away?
